Start with a clear view.

Ledger Live Desktop is a desktop companion that works alongside compatible Ledger hardware wallets. It gives you one place to review supported crypto accounts, check balances, and manage everyday account tasks while keeping transaction approval on your hardware device. Think of it as a considered window onto your assets—not a replacement for the device that protects them.

That distinction is useful. The app helps you read account activity and prepare actions; your device is where you verify and approve sensitive transactions. Keeping those roles separate makes the experience easier to understand and reinforces a deliberate approach to self-custody.

One workspace, useful context.

At a glance, a portfolio view can bring supported account balances together and help you follow changes over time. Account screens provide the detail behind that overview: asset balances, recent activity, and the tools available for each supported network. Availability can vary by asset, country, device, and app version, so treat in-app information as the best guide to what is currently supported.

Ledger Live may also surface ways to buy, swap, stake, or explore services through third-party providers. These features have their own terms, fees, eligibility rules, and risks; they are optional, not prerequisites for using a hardware wallet. Take time to understand a provider and the transaction details before proceeding.

A simple habit worth keeping

A thoughtful first setup.

Begin at Ledger’s official website and follow its current download and setup instructions. Install the desktop application from an official Ledger source, then connect and unlock your compatible device as directed. Check that the app recognizes your device and offers the expected firmware or application updates before adding accounts.

When adding an account, follow the prompts for the relevant network and review the address on your Ledger device whenever you receive funds. Your recovery phrase belongs offline, written down and kept private. No legitimate support agent needs it, and it should never be typed into a website, shared in a message, or stored in a screenshot.

Security is a routine, not a button.

Download updates only from official sources, keep your computer’s operating system current, and pause if a screen or request feels unexpected. Before confirming a transaction, read the amount, network, and destination address on the hardware wallet display itself. A computer screen can be misleading; the device display is the final check.

Ledger Live Desktop can make account management more legible, but it cannot remove market volatility or make every third-party service risk-free. Start with a small test transaction when appropriate, confirm network details, and never act under pressure. Careful, unhurried verification is one of the most useful tools in your setup.
